Fields Of Terror Prototype

 Fields Of Terror Prototype

So firstly I went onto the unity store to find out and see if there were any first-person assets that I could use in my game to make a prototype for this project task but seemed to be unsuccessful in doing, so instead, I decided to go onto youtube and look for a first-person movement video that could help me start the development of the game, the videos I used were both from Brackeys channel.

I also used a video on how to make a horror game so this helping me with the flashlight etc.

I then began to create my game in Unity.

I started playing around with map design with the pro builder option plugin for unity, this is where the Brackeys video really helped out with the basics of what I was looking for and I began to make a simple map to test things out for my character that being stairs, spiral stairs and a simple maze.

Then I proceed to get my first-person controller completed again the Brackeys video on the first person controller really helped.

Finally, after everything was working I got a dark skybox implemented and then looked at the how to make a horror game video on how to add the flashlight so I make everything dark in the game and added a spotlight (flashlight) and changed the intensity etcetera, this was very self-explanatory.

What really worked well for me was the flashlight mechanic that was quick and easy to do but still needs some work like adding cookies, but overall I am happy with it. One thing that really took a lot of my time to do was getting the gravity right. I found it difficult to make the falling off objects look normal but in the end, it worked out and I was satisfied with the result.

Overall I am really happy with my work so far and here’s how it turned out…

  1. Hi Sam, just had a look at all of your project blogs looks like you have your game well thought out, your GDD was very informative. Just looking at your Prototype now and well done!! It looks like you made great use of your time and got lots done, I love how you included all of the videos you sourced too! . Wow I think your prototype looks so good. I wonder with the flashlight will this move with the player or can they move it left to right themselves? Also what if there will be background music in your game? I wish you all the luck with your game, Aoibhe
