Feedback Strategies
Hey there,
In this blog we will be talking
about feedback and how to give it. This is not just feedback as if you where
telling someone that whatever they have done is good but its all to do with
productive feedback, and as it was given rather than saying feedback, say
feedforward, so to the person that you are giving feedback an use this to make whatever
they have done ten times better than what it was originally.
I began to look through the
articles that we where given about how to give someone some feedback and
finally ended up with two that I think are really helpful they are Try Feedforward
Instead of Feedback and How to Give Feedback Without Sounding Like a Jerk. In
this ill talk about how and why I thought they were both useful.
Firstly, I will talk about Try Feedforward
Instead of Feedback. This is a good article in finding out about what feedforward
is all about and how to use it when your commenting on someone’s work. It went
over some reasons as to why you should use feedforward instead of feedback. The
reasons that I felt meant the most to where:
·
People do NOT take feedforward as personal as
feedback- I felt this was really useful because sometimes when you give feedback
to a person, you can come across as a bit of a uncivil person and this isn’t
good your not helping that person with their work and making it constructive
rather you are making it harder for them to get inspiration for new ideas. Whereas
feedforward cannot bring in the personal side of things. You are suggesting positive
ideas for this person’s idea.
·
People tend to listen to feedforward then
feedback- This meaning that when you give this positive constructive feedforward
this person is going to gain the motivation to use your criticism and develop
and use it in their idea. But in feedback it may not be constructive, and that
person will not listen to what you have said or suggested.
These two points really helped me
in understanding what feedforward is about, of course are more points on the article
about feedforward, but these two stood out for me.
Secondly, I will talk about the
second article that I looked a and that is Give Feedback Without Sounding Like a
Jerk. This in my opinion is important if you want to give feedback, you cannot make
it out sounding like a troll online. This article highlights different ways
that you can show the person as to what type of feedback you are giving them,
so you get a clear picture of what your trying to give them. Again, I will talk
about two points that I found to be the most interesting on this article:
·
Explain why you are giving the feedback- This
will help the user you are giving the feedback to understand what type of
constructive feedback you are giving them. Doing this will make you sound like
a lot less of a jerk.
·
Asking the person if they want feedback- If you
do this you will then know if they do or do not. If you just give them feedback
without them knowing what your talking about they wouldn’t take it into
consideration, but if you ask them and let them know they may be more understanding
of what you are talking about in your feedback comment.
